RALEIGH Professional - Racing bike (1977)
A real beauty, made in England!
I rode this bike in youth races in southern Germany from 1979 onwards, having previously ridden my first races on a standard Peugeot touring bike (I removed the mudguards, dynamo, etc. to make it look like a real racing bike).
After that, it was my everyday bike for a while before disappearing into the garage and not being used for many years.
For the last 10 years, a friend of mine has occasionally used it for training and now, after so many years, the bike has found its way back to me.
The frame was built in January 1979 in the (former Carlton) factory in Worksop. The bike has a lugged frame based on Reynolds 531 steel tubes and weighs 8.9kg! And that was 26 years ago!
I will be documenting the refurbishment of this bike on these pages as soon as I start. I will also try to collect some information about Raleigh road bikes here. At the moment, the bike is still in the cellar, waiting for better days...
